The Variants in the Cost of Plastic Surgery
There is more to determining plastic surgery costs than one might initially believe. The main determinants to the cost is the part of the body to be treated, the type of procedure, the technique used and the geographical location of the clinic. Basically, the larger sized areas will cost more because it usually takes more work. The exact treatment and technique that will be used could affect the tools required and could be more or less difficult than the alternative. The rates for each itemized charge are relative to the cosmetic surgery market of that geographical region.
Body parts that are bigger will generally cost more than smaller parts. It might seem obvious but it is the effort and time required of the surgeon that patients are being charged.
The number of areas to be treated in one session will also affect the per area cost. Getting multiple areas treated at once will cost less than multiple individual sessions. This is to save on the preparation and setup of the surgical equipment and facility.
There are many different plastic surgery procedures and each one will differ in cost from another. Non-surgical procedures, injections, and chemical peels tend to be cheaper than surgical procedures since there is much less risk of serious complication.
The amount of anesthesia required depends on the size of the surgery which is a factor of the type of treatment. The anesthesia charge is a big item in the total cost of plastic surgery and the amount of the drug used is not free. Higher doses not only cost more for the solution but also because the administration will require a certified anesthesiologist.
Most clinics will initially quote and advertise only the surgeon’s fee since this is probably the only fee that is an item in every procedure. But any type of procedure will require many more fees to be included. The use of the surgery room is usually called the facility fee and can cost $500 to $2000 per session. The average procedure will run up about $1,000 in anesthesia charges. The facility fee will also include any type of equipment or tools used during the procedure.
